Slam Central is New Westminster's Spoken Word event that takes place every Thursday at the Heritage Grill.  Doors open at 7 PM and the Slam starts at 8 PM.  Cover charge is $5.  Slam Central poets have been featured at Pandora's Collective Summer Dreams Festival at Stanley Park in Vancouver, BC Aug 13, 2011, and are featuring at Rivers Day BC Sept 24, 2011 at New Westminster Quay between 11:30 and 3:30 PM

Candice James is the current Poet Laureate of the City of New West, BC  

 

Candice James is the Poet Laureate of the City of New Westminster and the President of the Federation of British Columbia Writers.  She has 4 books of poetry published and previously she has been employed as administrator in the financial services industry; real estate agent; record producer; music publisher; professional musician; and singer songwriter. She is the creator of Slam Central; Poetic Justice; and Poetry In The Park.

 

 

 

 

 

Host - Reese McBeth

 

 Reese McBeth "Able to leap small stages in a single bound"" "Able to stop a scowling face in a split second" "Able to wow audiences everywhere with his crazy and wierd poetic mind" Reese's improvisational style and rapid fire delivery will have you begging for mercy!

Being a risk taker on the spoken word, comedy and poetry stage since the age of 18 has garnered him the oh so suitable  name , "The Kamikaze Kid"!

He is an actor, poet and comedian with a dark side.

 

 

Director- Ken Ader

 

 

 

 

Ken Ader is a man of many talents.  He has enjoyed active employment in the goods and services industry, as a publisher and also as a tradesman.

 

 

He is affectionately referred to by both the slammers and the clappers as "The Doorman" or "the Old Man" and always enjoys a good rap session with the poets and audience members.

 

 

 

Youth Co-ordinator - Vincent Gnitt

 

Vincent Gnitt is a New Westminster Senior Secondary student with a great talent for slam poetry.

 

He has featured at Mouths of Fury; Poetic Justice; Pandora’s Collective Summer Dreams Festival, and has won many cash prizes at Slam Central for his spoken word poetry

 

Vincent takes his poetry very seriously and can deliver it thus, and then he can turn around and surprise you with a beautiful and tender love poem.

He is a man of many talents with a brilliant future in spoken word.
